The 3rd Annual NJ Zombie Walk in Asbury Park will try to be the largest gathering of zombies in history. The Guinness Book of World Records will be there for the attempt of breaking the current record set in Seattle. The number to beat is 4,200; so they need your help spreading the infection to your family, friends, school, office, etc.
The zombie walk is the brainchild of Jason Meehan, who got the idea after seeing photos from a similar event in Atlanta. Together with Christina Terry he picked Asbury Park as a potential location for the first New Jersey zombie walk. Why Asbury Park? It inspired Jason due to “the deconstructed state of much of the architecture – the decay felt like being in a post-zombie-apocalpyse town; but with an overwhelming sense that the city was in it’s own way rising back from the dead, just like a zombie”. The first event took place in October 2008, and Jason and Christina took care of everything at that time. They made up posters and stickers, a MySpace page to spread the word online, and 450 zombies came out. A year later the event spread like a virus (pun intended) and the total was over 1,500. This time he expects close to 5,000. “We’ve got a Guinness World Record to break!”
The base camp is the Asbury Park Convention Hall, at 1300 Ocean Ave. Here’s the schedule for the day: Base camp opens at 11am. Checkin/registration takes place until 4pm. ZombieCon is also open to the public with over 50 vendors participating and makeup artists are available for zombie makeovers. By 2pm, all zombies must be checked-in by this time to be a part of the Guinness World Record Attempt. At 3pm it’s the last call for zombie makeovers. Then at 4pm, the Guiness World Record counting begins! Do NOT be late for this! Volunteers will assist everyone during the counting process. Zombies will be given instructions about the walking route, rules and etiquette for the day. The zombie walk begins immediately after the Guinness counting is finished and it ends around 7pm in Downtown Asbury Park. But the event keeps going till 9pm with a zombie street fair, zombie music, zombie beauty pageant, Jell-O brain eating contest and more. al restaurants and businesses The party continues through the night with Halloween after-parties all over Asbury Park! There’s Disco of the Damned @ Asbury Lanes, Circus from Hell @ Convention Hall, Rocky Horror Show @ The Carousel House and much more!
