Today, July 20th, 2011, we had the pleasure to attend the unveiling of Jersey Shore’s largest icon. A program created by the Jersey Shore Conventions and Visitors Bureau, the “ICON” is a lifeguard chair with a message that invites people to text codes to a phone number in order to be eligible to win a free vacation at the shore. The JSCVB is thus continuing its mission to promote the Jersey Shore region as a destination for individuals and families, businesses and organizations.
The events began at the Passion Group’s Cookman Ave HQ in Asbury Park, with a short presentation by Gary Pollack from the JSCVB and Grace Hanlon, Director of the NJ Division of Tourism. Then the guests were shuttled to the Asbury Park boardwalk, which looked gorgeous on this very sunny day. Right there on the beach stood a giant 15-feet tall lifeguard chair, which is the largest “icon”.
The guest speakers included Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini, Assemblyman Dave Wolfe, Grace Hanlon, Tom Gilmour from the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from the JSCVB. They all stressed the importance of tourism in the shore area’s economy, and appreciated everybody’s efforts in promoting Jersey Shore travel. Then they proceeded to the ribbon cutting, thus marking a new step into social media by the Monmouth and Northern Ocean counties’ DMO.
If you’re looking to rent a house at the shore, check out ShoreVacations.com, Jersey Shore’s biggest vacation rentals resource. It lists hundreds of rental homes and condos from Sandy Hook all the way down to Cape May (including Belmar, Point Pleasant, Seaside Heights, Ocean City, Long Beach Island, Atlantic City or the Wildwoods). It’s a one-stop website for planning your Jersey Shore vacation, featuring beach information, weather updates and more! And of course, it has a full list of all the Jersey Shore events this year.
In the end, please enjoy a few snapshots of Cookman Ave and of the Asbury Park boardwalk:
