Yes, it’s June already! Although it kind of felt like summer this week when many shore towns hit temperature over 90F. Looks like the weather will cool down over the weekend, so here are a few events at the Jersey Shore that you can enjoy this weekend of June 1-3. Let’s start with a few big festivals:
Saturday it’s the 22nd Annual Point Pleasant Summerfest between 11am-7pm, at Bridge Ave & Beaver Dam Rd. Enjoy six bands, a huge childrens section, mechanical rides and inflatables, face painting, sand art and more. Beer and wine garden, over 20 food vendors (crabcakes, Italian ice cajun, pizza, BBQ, etc), and 200 craft vendors. Bridge Ave & Beaver Dam Rd.
If you like wine, then don’t miss the inaugural Jersey Shore Wine Festival at the FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. There will be wine tastings by many wineries from around the state. There will also be live musical entertainment throughout both days, crafters, vendors, and food, plus a play area for the kids. Running Noon to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Marine Park in Red Bank is hosting RiverFest 2012, showcasing talented local bands performing simultaneously on multiple stages capped by appearances of nationally known blues and jazz artists. There will be plenty food vendors and crafters. Schedule is: Fri 5-10pm, Sat 11am-10pm, Sun 11am-6pm.
Sunday it’s the 15th Annual Barnegat Bay Festival, Ocean County’s major environmental festival held about the maritime heritage and Barnegat Bay with special emphasis on interactive family events. There will be demonstrations as well as exhibits by most of the area’s environmental organizations, 10am-4pm at the Wanamaker Complex
Over the weekend you can also visit the Ocean City Flower Show and see beautiful commercial and amateur displays at the Music Pier. Friday 2-9pm, Saturday 10am-9pm and Sunday, 10am-4 pm
If you’re in Atlantic City, you may consider these two concerts:
For the active people, there are two very cool races this weekend:
- Saturday it’s the Avon Day 5K at 8:30am, running along the boardwalk and through this quaint beach town. Since the finish is at the beach, you can jump into the waves right after the race!
- Sunday it’s the Harvey Cedars Triathlon: 750 meter swim, 20km bike, 5km run. The swim will take place in the bay, with water temperatures in the high 60s. The bike course will head north and will be two loops in closed lanes on LBI Boulevard. The run course will head south on LBI Boulevard before turning around and heading back to finish in Sunset Park. This event is hosted by Olympic Triathlete Jarrod Shoemaker!
