Casino Pier Review: Going to Seaside With Kids? You Can’t Miss the Pier!

Jersey Shore Vacations Seaside HeightsSeaside Heights is one of the main Jersey Shore travel destination and, despite some negative hype from the media, it’s very kid-friendly (might not be after 10pm, but what small kids would still be out at that time). There’s nothing better than spending a day on the clean sandy Seaside beach, bathing in the clear Atlantic waters, strolling the boardwalk for ice cream, pizza and of course lots of games, and enjoying the rides at the Casino Pier.

Note: you can see a lot more pictures in our Facebook album.

The amusement pier is located right in the middle of everything, next to the most popular part of the beach, and where the boardwalk is the busiest! If you go there with kids, it will be so hard for them to decide what to do, play in the sand or go to the rides. I went there with my 4-year old and my 1.5-year old and we had the same tough choices…

There’s plenty to do for small kids like mine. There are rides similar to what you’ve seen at other area parks, however they have different themes or twists that will keep them wanting to go again and again. Toddlers and young kids can enjoy the Boats going around on clear waters while the bells are ringing; the smooth Car Combo where they’ll have to choose between a variety of vehicles, from jeeps to firetrucks; the Motorcycles where they can do wheelies; the Buggies which will keep them bouncing up and down.

For a bit older kids (4, 5-year olds), or more courageous ones, they can try spinning around in the Dizzy Dragons, ride the Hot Tamale miniature rollercoaster, or try the Speedway with its race cars doing an exciting drifting effect around the corners.

There’s lots to do for their parents, or for teenagers: the new Air Race which simulates an acrobatic airplane flight, the super fast Music Express, the Pirate’s Hideaway rollercoaster or the upside-down spinning Super Storm.

I was very happy to see the Casino Pier back, with no trace of what happened 2 years ago. Except for the fact that the pier is shorter, you wouldn’t guess that everything was wiped out by Superstorm Sandy. I visited Seaside Heights last spring (about 5 months after Sandy) and there was nothing here. The pier lied empty, there was no boardwalk, and most of the stores were shuttered close. But they did their best efforts to rebuild the boardwalk and the pier, and then one-by-one they brought back all the beloved rides.

Another Seaside staple is the Skyride, a gentle chairlift ride over the beach. It moves slowly and comfortable offering panoramic vistas of the sandy beach and ocean waves, as well as the busy boardwalk with all its shops, bars and eateries. You can just go out-and-back for a round-trip, taking pictures of the town while enjoying a refreshing ocean breeze. Note that kids have to be at least 36″ to ride, and you need to buy separate tickets.

And of course, a top attraction is the Go-Karts, relocated now across the street next to the waterpark. It’s not the fast competitive go-karts, but a more family-friendly ride that everyone can enjoy. Kids as short as 36″ can ride as a passenger with their dads, and there are “junior” cars that can be driven at 48″ height. There’s a figure-8 track, with a bridge and a tunnel, that will keep the young ones on the edge, giving them the excitement of motor racing!

And there’s more to do once you’re in Seaside. The Breakwater Beach waterpark can keep you busy for a full-day (review coming soon). There’s also the Caroussel inside the Pier Grille, where you can grab some delicious pizza, sandwiches, salads and more. The rooftop Minigolf offers great views of the Pier. And of course, there’s that huge beach and shallow waters, which you can enjoy for much lower prices than places North of here (only $6 for a weekend day, with kids under 11 free).
